Project Spotlight: 3D Landscapes

Warm weather is just around the corner, and as a way to welcome it, the Intro to Visual Arts class has been working on 3D landscapes. Students chose a landscape painting they favored, and explored color and style by trying their hands at a master copy. Below we have a few finished pieces as well as a few works in progress. Let's have a look, shall we?

This lovely piece based on a Bob Ross (yes... THAT Bob Ross) is by Fox. Because he hasn't painted it all yet, we're able to see his sculpting process for achieving different textures. As you can see, clay is applied to the top of the piece to give the paintings a relief like surface. Very cool!

This beauty is by Callie. It's all done and ready to show the world. What's beautiful about this is her ability to capture a sunset and a moon rising all at once.

Now these two paintings are by two different students, Sarah and Julia. They are based on the same painting by Monet, but look how differently they interpreted them! Absolutely beautiful.

Finally, we have a piece by Sasha. I took an extra shot of this one from the side so you can see how the 3 dimensionality of the pieces work. Enjoy!
