Tim Burton Part Two

We gave you a sneak peek at some really great little creatures in the making in our last post- here are even more right out of the oven!  The students designed and built their own creature, animal or person in the style of the popular director and animator Tim Burton. These are just a few that I think Mr. Burton would be quite impressed with! Stay tuned for when they're all finished and painted. Thank you for visiting!

Tim Burton, Oh My

Tim Burton is a rare gem in the movie industry. Known for his strange and unexpected films like Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, and Beetlejuice, Burton established a style in the early 90's completely different from directors before him. For our current 3D assignment, the Juniors are creating their own version of a Burton creature.  Using the same materials a claymation artist would use, students will mold, bake, and paint a little critter of their own! Here are a few in the works. Enjoy!

Edward Gorey Meets Edgar Allan Poe

Every fall the Visual Arts department combines the gothic style of Edward Gorey's illustrations, and Edgar Allan Poe's gothic literature with a pen and ink assignment.  The students pick a scene from their favorite Poe story or poem and make an illustration using hatching techniques learned in class. These are works in progress. Stay tuned for the finished products! Do you recognize some of your favorite Poe stories?

Below is an example of Edward Gorey's pen and ink style that served as inspiration for the project. It's all about texture!

Assemblages Coming to the Media Center

Good afternoon! Our current Juniors have finished their first project with a bang. Using Joseph Cornell as inspiration, students were given the techniques and tools to create any creature, person, or character they chose out of recycled materials. The results are pretty great! They'll be displayed in the BVT Media Center starting tomorrow, Friday September 5th. Stop by and check them out!
