One of the last projects that seniors work on Art History Studio is a research project. Each student can choose ANY artist from past or present and create a piece of art inspired by them and their technique. Below are some finished products. Please come to our annual art show which will take place May 10th this spring and see them in person!

Seniors Working on Choice Projects
Hi all! It's not often that I post videos, but I just HAD to post some in-progress videos of a couple seniors working. As one of the last projects for the seniors in Art History Studio, students pick an artist (past or present) that inspires them. They do a little research about that artist and make a piece of art as an homage. Below are two videos of students working on their projects.
Olivia chose Edward Clark as her artist. Clark is an abstract expressionist painter from the 60's and is still alive and exhibiting work today. He primarily paints with brooms on very large canvases! Olivia wanted to experiment using a broom to paint as well! She plans to add more paint everyday until the canvas is full.
Autumn chose local cake artist Amanda Oakleaf (Oakleaf Cakes in Boston MA). Autumn is very interested in cake artistry and decided to make a cake "dummy" (nothing edible on the inside, with fondant on the outside) to practice her fondant sculpting skills. These are the beginning stages before she hand paints flowers on the sides.

Surreal Portraits WIP
Sophomores are wrapping up their surreal portraits this week! These are their works in progress. They took inspiration from Salvador Dali's dreamlike imagery to construct a bizarre and surreal portrait of their own. The materials are acrylic paint and pastel. We also looked at illustrator Mark Ryden for some contemporary inspiration.
