Throw Back Thursday!

We're looking back here in the Visual Arts Department. Here are a few projects that didn't make it into the spotlight last year. We've got unconventional quilling by last year's juniors (in simple terms- applying twirled strips of paper to create a three dimensional design or image), and album art designs by last year's freshmen (where students redesigned an album cover for their favorite artist or band). Thanks for checking these pieces out! Stay tuned for more cool stuff coming your way!

Da Vinci Comes to BVT!

Art History is getting acquainted with Leonardo Da Vinci. By using similar techniques and media, students have the freedom to choose a scientific or mechanical subject to draw from observation.  By connecting what the eye sees to what the hand draws, students can cultivate their ability to draw more freely.  These are just works in progress- more to come!

Below are some scientific illustrations and mechanical drawings by Da Vinci that serve as inspiration for the project. The true Renaissance man, Da Vinci was not only an artist, but an engineer, philosopher and scientist.

Sneak Peek

Three dimensional design got into the swing of things this week with their first assignment: assemblage. Assemblage is art made from the collection of recycled items. In this particular case, bits and pieces from the shops around BVT! These are just a few of the great ideas coming together! Some are more recognizable than others, but that's what great about creative freedom!

Summer Fun

It looks like we've got some great work to kick the year off! Alyssa, a senior in Multi Media wanted to share some observational work she completed this summer.  She spent the summer at a 6 week pre-college program at the Montserrat College of Art where she will be applying to this year.
