Artist Spotlight: Matthew

It's been a couple weeks since our last Artist Spotlight! This week, BVT ArtWorks proudly presents Matthew! Matt is a sophomore in Auto Tech here at BVT and regularly attends after school art. These are a few of his projects from his 2 Dimensional Design class. The first is a watercolor painting with a personal religious meaning. The second is a playing card design done with charcoal and pastel. Lastly,  a scratchboard design lightly colored with colored pencil.  He puts his heart and soul into every piece. Enjoy!

BVT Arts Night

On May 22nd we had our annual Arts Night at BVT! We featured three events: The BVT Acappella Chorus, the new BVT Jam Band, and a gallery opening featuring art from every student in the Visual Arts program.  It's no surprise that the kids wowed loved ones and friends with their musical and artistic talents! The pictures below are of the gallery before the opening. The art you see was curated and arranged by our very own Art School Prep club! They did an amazing job. If you missed this year's Arts Night, I would highly recommend checking it out next spring! Stay tuned for an audio sample of the Chorus' songs that night!

Project Spotlight: 3D Landscapes

Warm weather is just around the corner, and as a way to welcome it, the Intro to Visual Arts class has been working on 3D landscapes. Students chose a landscape painting they favored, and explored color and style by trying their hands at a master copy. Below we have a few finished pieces as well as a few works in progress. Let's have a look, shall we?

This lovely piece based on a Bob Ross (yes... THAT Bob Ross) is by Fox. Because he hasn't painted it all yet, we're able to see his sculpting process for achieving different textures. As you can see, clay is applied to the top of the piece to give the paintings a relief like surface. Very cool!

This beauty is by Callie. It's all done and ready to show the world. What's beautiful about this is her ability to capture a sunset and a moon rising all at once.

Now these two paintings are by two different students, Sarah and Julia. They are based on the same painting by Monet, but look how differently they interpreted them! Absolutely beautiful.

Finally, we have a piece by Sasha. I took an extra shot of this one from the side so you can see how the 3 dimensionality of the pieces work. Enjoy!

Artist Spotlight: Deanna

Deanna is a senior here at BVT in our Cosmotology Department. While she is not presently considering art school after graduation, she has immense passion for creating beautiful works and wishes to pursue cosmotology as her career.
The following pieces were completed in BVT's Art History course. The first for our Leonardo DaVinci assignment focusing on scientific observation using sienna, black and white conte crayon on brown paper. Her second piece comes from our unit on Andy Warhol as a Pop Art icon from the 20th century.  While this second work is still in progress, it's a treat to see how she approaches color profiles and painting with acrylic.

Project Spotlight: Exploding Books

The project you see below comes from our 3 Dimensional Design class at BVT. We recycled old textbooks and created Deconstructed Books. This is an art form that is very much alive in today's galleries. You can view some current pieces here. Students were presented with the challenge to create the illusion that these forms were emerging right from the book. The subject matter was left up to them. As you can see, there were many different solutions! Some did folding methods, while others did more paper mache. You can view all these pieces and more in the BVT Media Center.

Classroom Spotlight: World Cultures Takes a Field Trip!

Ms. Moynihan's World Culture's class had the pleasure of attending a field trip to the Worcester Center for Crafts to contribute to the amazing Carnaval Exhibit. Through this hands-on activity, students learned about the Carnaval custom that is observed year round with masquerade masks, parades and balls! Enjoy!
